About

Cactus Coliving started in a house Maria grew up in, a place her family nearly had to sell during COVID. Instead of letting it go, they opened it to people who wanted more than just a desk and a bed. The house is over three hundred years old and still has the family photos on the walls, the height marks on the doors, the stickers from childhood. People arrive and they say they feel home straight away. That energy is real and you will feel it yourself when you get there. The whole idea behind Cactus is community as a way of life. That means a community manager who organises something every single day, from rooftop yoga and farmers market runs to boat trips and Sunday brunches cooked together. It also means giving back to the local Canarian culture, not just passing through it. Guests shop at the village market, eat at local spots, and connect with the island in a way that most tourists never do. There are two locations in Tenerife: Cactus Valle in Valle San Lorenzo, the original family house with the most social energy, and Cactus Adeje, a smaller and quieter space for people who want to stay longer and find their footing on the island. Both communities connect regularly during the week.

  • WiFi download and upload speeds of 300 Mbps, with a 4G/5G hotspot as backup
  • A dedicated coworking space with 20 workstations and ergonomic chairs
  • Phone booths and separate call rooms available for calls without disturbing others
  • Work desks in all private rooms
  • Wired ethernet is not available
  • Power outages are rare; a generator or UPS backup is available
  • Internet holds up well during peak hours and only very rarely dips during bad weather

Community & Social

  • A full-time community manager organises activities every day at Cactus Valle
  • A sample week includes rooftop yoga, skill-sharing sessions, family dinners, beach volleyball, sunset yoga, game nights, group hikes, island adventures, and the Sunday community brunch
  • Cactus Adeje runs a quieter schedule but connects with the Valle community several times a week, including Sunday brunch and shared activities
  • Maria describes the community feel as connection and belonging: people who want to participate, not just consume
  • Part of the community culture is giving back to the local Canarian community, including shopping at the village farmers market and supporting local businesses
  • The vibe is highly social but not party-focused
  • There is almost always something happening, but the atmosphere is respectful and grounded
  • Guests are mostly solo travellers aged 23 to 40, a mix of remote workers, digital nomads, and entrepreneurs

Comfort & Living

  • Room types include shared rooms (50m2), private rooms (16m2), private ensuite rooms (20m2), and premium ensuite rooms (25m2)
  • Bathrooms are ensuite or shared between two to three people depending on the room
  • All rooms have a lock on the door
  • Some rooms have blackout curtains
  • Soundproofing is good at Valle San Lorenzo; at Adeje, rooms are close together and some noise between rooms is possible
  • Free drinking water, coffee, and tea are provided
  • Communal spaces include a fully equipped kitchen, living room, rooftop, garden and terrace, BBQ area, wine cellar, meeting rooms, and coworking spaces
  • Weekly room cleaning, linen, and towels are included in the price
  • Utilities (water and electricity) are included
  • Coworking access and high-speed WiFi are included
  • Weekly Sunday brunch and yoga lessons are included
  • A shared guitar is available for guests
  • Monitor use, washing machine coins, family dinners, and ice baths are not included in the price
  • Pets are welcome with conditions: one pet per house, with a 45 euro per month cleaning fee
  • No air conditioning or heating in rooms
  • There is no on-site gym, but a gym is within walking distance

Location & Surroundings

  • Located in Valle San Lorenzo and Adeje, two local villages in the south of Tenerife, away from tourist resort areas
  • Supermarkets, stores, and banks are within walking distance from both houses
  • Local markets run on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with many restaurants and food options nearby
  • Good public transport options are available
  • The nearest airport is around 20 minutes by car
  • A car is helpful but not required for daily life
  • Gym, surf spots, and hiking trails are all accessible nearby
  • The neighbourhood is very safe
  • Best weather runs from September to April (19 to 26 degrees) and May to August (23 to 28 degrees)
  • The area is not touristic, meaning locals genuinely welcome the coliving guests

Perfect for

People who want real community, not just coworking with strangers. You are curious about Canarian culture, open to participating in daily life, and happy sharing spaces with others. Whether you are a remote worker escaping a European winter for a few weeks or someone settling into Tenerife longer term, Cactus works best for people who want to feel like they belong somewhere, not just pass through.

Not right for

If you want a hotel-style experience, complete privacy, or total silence, this is not the place. The houses are social by design and something is usually happening. At Adeje, you may hear neighbours through the walls. If you have no interest in community or local culture, and just need a cheap place to sleep, look elsewhere.
