About
The Better Neighbors is not a typical coliving. It is a pop-up workation retreat set in the mountain resort town of Sinaia, Romania, and the whole town is essentially your campus. You stay in one of three hotels run by our hospitality partner, with access to their spa, gym, and coworking spaces. But the experience goes well beyond the building. After office hours, the group comes together for workshops, talks, yoga sessions, and shared dinners. Local guides take you hiking through the Carpathians on weekends. Engineers have given coding classes to Romanian children here. Artists have run portraiture workshops next to people working on their laptops. One guest finished writing their book during a stay. We run this retreat during May and June, when the mountain air is fresh and the weather is perfect for exploring, and again in November for those who like the cosy side of a mountain winter. We keep our prices genuinely affordable through our partnership with the hotels, which fills their low season and gives you high-quality accommodation without the inflated price tag you see elsewhere. There is also an artist residency integrated into the program. Selected artists receive sponsored accommodation in exchange for artwork, which goes toward an in-house collection and a social art auction that raises volunteer hours for our NGO partners. It all comes full circle. Your stay here is purposeful, not just a nice backdrop for your work.Work & WiFi
- WiFi download speed is 250 Mbps and upload speed is 100 Mbps
- Wired ethernet is available
- A 4G/5G hotspot provides backup connectivity
- The internet holds up reliably during peak hours and bad weather
- A dedicated coworking space with 20 workstations is available, with ergonomic chairs and a phone booth for calls
- Guests can also work from their private room, which includes a work desk
- Power outages never occur, and a generator or UPS backup is in place
Community & Social
- The community is built through a structured daily program, not left to chance
- During the day, guests work independently from their room or one of the coworking spaces
- After office hours, the group gathers for workshops, talks, or yoga sessions in communal spaces across town
- A full-time community manager, Alejandra, is present throughout every retreat and leads the group experience
- Sample activities during a week include yoga in a castle-style villa, morning work sessions, afternoon castle visits, Carpathian hikes, shared dinners, and spa evenings
- Local guides take the group on weekend slow-travel excursions across Transylvania
- The retreat also includes NGO-partnered community sessions where guests can contribute skills, from coding classes for local children to creative workshops
- The vibe is focused but warm: social enough to build real connections, calm enough to get serious work done
- Artists on the residency program work alongside digital nomads, and the energy in the room reflects that mix of disciplines and creative momentum
Comfort & Living
- Rooms are private with ensuite bathrooms and measure 16 to 20 square meters
- All rooms have a double bed, blackout curtains, a lock on the door, and enough floor space for a yoga mat
- Heating is provided
- Weekly room cleaning, fresh linen, and towels are included in the price
- Free drinking water is available throughout
- Communal spaces include a fully equipped kitchen, living room and lounge, garden and terrace, gym and fitness area, and a swimming pool
- Three hotel properties are used across Sinaia, so the experience spans the town rather than a single building
Location & Surroundings
- Sinaia is a well-established mountain resort town in the Carpathian region of Transylvania
- Everything needed for daily life is within a 5 to 15 minute walk: hotels, coworking spaces, cafes, restaurants, a gym and spa, hiking trails, local landmarks, supermarkets, pharmacies, and bakeries
- No car is needed
- The nearest supermarket is a 2-minute walk
- Three partner restaurants offer guests 25% off, including a Romanian restaurant, an Italian restaurant, and an American-inspired fusion spot
- Sinaia is accessible by train from Bucharest, approximately 1,5 hours away
- The town is very safe and generally quiet
- Note: as with any mountain destination, bears are present in the area
- Avoid walking in the woods after dark and stick to well-lit areas and the town centre
- Best months to visit are May and June for mild temperatures and ideal hiking conditions, and November for a quieter, cosier winter experience
Perfect for
Remote workers, freelancers, and slow travellers who want to stay productive while being part of a real community. People finishing a big project, building a business, or creating content. First-timers curious about coliving. Artists open to a curator-led residency. Anyone between 20 and 45 who values affordable, purposeful travel over luxury.
Not right for
Not suited for those expecting a five-star luxury hotel experience. Not for heavy partygoers. November guests must be prepared for genuine cold mountain weather. Light sleepers should note some hotel walls are thin, though the town is generally very quiet.
