About
Mi Casa started with two Mexican women who met through a mutual friend in Puerto Escondido, felt an immediate connection, and decided to build something together. One of us lives here full-time, the other visits every winter to escape the cold in Germany. Between us, we bring local roots, hospitality experience, and a genuine love for this place. What we wanted to create was simple: a coliving where you actually feel like you are in Mexico. Not just living near it. The house itself is a traditional hacienda-style home in La Punta Zicatela, decorated with handmade pieces from Oaxaca, colorful and warm in the way that Mexico really is. When you walk through the door, you feel it immediately. We run cooking classes so you can learn to make chilaquiles or guacamole. We connect guests with local markets and businesses. We speak Spanish and we want to share that world with you. Most coliving spaces in Puerto Escondido are run by international people, and there is nothing wrong with that, but we wanted to offer something different: a place with real local roots, where you can experience the culture from the inside. The vibe here is peaceful and welcoming. People tend to wake up early for surf or beach sessions, work through the day, and come together in the evenings. We organize a few activities each week, but there is no pressure. Puerto Escondido has so much going on outside our walls that you will never be stuck for things to do. We just make sure you have a warm, comfortable home to come back to.Work & WiFi
- Starlink WiFi with download speeds up to 320 Mbps and upload speeds of 30 Mbps
- Connection is stable for remote work and video calls, with only occasional brief interruptions during heavy storms
- Dedicated coworking space with 8 workstations and ergonomic chairs
- Early and late calls can be taken without disturbing other residents
- No wired ethernet option available
- No backup internet connection
- Power outages are rare, a few times per year, with no generator or UPS backup
Community & Social
- Mi Casa runs three organized community activities per week, with additional recommendations shared so guests can join as much or as little as they like
- Sample weekly schedule: Monday beach day in La Punta with volleyball and tacos at sunset; Wednesday Mexican cooking class at Mi Casa followed by a family-style dinner; Friday morning yoga in the garden, free afternoon, and optional bar hopping in Puerto Escondido at night
- The team also maintains a curated list of local markets and businesses so guests can connect with and support the local community
- A part-time community manager and host is on-site and available to guests
- The coliving has a social rating of 8 out of 10 and a chill rating of 7 out of 10
- It is not party-focused
- As Fernanda put it, most digital nomads here are open people ready to make friends and have adventures
- You can be in a place full of strangers and never feel alone
- The goal is genuine connection, not a packed activity calendar
- Most socializing happens naturally, over meals, at the beach, or over a cooking class
- Most guests are solo travelers between 25 and 35, staying for a month or longer
- The atmosphere is calm, curious, and community-minded without being overwhelming

Perfect for
Remote workers who want to actually experience Mexican culture, not just be near it. People who enjoy a peaceful daily rhythm: surf or beach in the morning, focused work through the day, good company in the evening. Solo travelers looking for real community without pressure. Anyone curious about local life, open to a cooking class, a market run, or learning a few words of Spanish along the way. Those who want a warm home base, not just a place to sleep.
Not right for
Those looking for a party hostel or high-energy nightlife every evening. People who prefer to keep entirely to themselves and are not open to shared living. Light sleepers who need a fully soundproofed environment: this is a traditional Mexican home and you will hear birds, roosters, and neighborhood life. Anyone unwilling to respect the space, the other guests, and the local community around them.
