About

La Vita Sukha sits inside a family-built villa in Roseto Valfortore, a small mountain village in northern Puglia where my parents were born. The name blends Italian and Sanskrit: la vita means the life, and sukha is a lasting state of happiness. That is what this place is built around. I grew up coming here every summer, my parents spent 20 years building it, and after they passed I found a way to keep it alive by opening it as a coliving space. So when you stay here, you are staying in a real home with a real story, not a product. People arrive from fast-paced lives in cities or from months of constant moving, and the feedback I keep hearing is the same: there is just so much headspace here. Creative projects start. Sleep improves. The pace slows in the best possible way. The village itself has a magical quality that is hard to explain until you walk through it. And because I have been part of this community for 12 years, when you come here you do not just get the villa. You get the truffle hunter, the olive oil producer ranked among the top 10 in the world, the Nonna who makes pasta, the Saturday market where everyone wants to stop and talk. You sleep here and you work here, but you live in the village. That is the difference.

Community & Social

  • Community here is organic, not scheduled
  • Activities are suggested and decided by the group, not handed down by the host
  • Possible activities include: pasta workshop with a local Nonna, truffle hunting with a master hunter, visits to a world-ranked olive oil producer, beekeeping experience, rare-breed organic pig farm tour, specialty coffee making, nature walks and hikes in the surrounding hills, trips to nearby towns or the coast, movie and pizza nights, Nintendo Wii and board games evenings, shared cooking, and full moon gatherings around the fire pit
  • Some community events are included in the price
  • Others, organised by local community members, are paid separately
  • Liz is a qualified yoga teacher and offers sessions or group meditation for those who want it, with no pressure
  • There is a fire pit on site for evening gatherings
  • The host is on site full time and is hands-on
  • Liz genuinely wants to get to know the people who come here
  • Groups stay small, maximum 10 people, so connection tends to happen naturally over shared meals and everyday life
  • Guests often find that the slower pace, the village rhythm, and the beauty of the surroundings do more for community than any planned programme could

Comfort & Living

  • Choice of room types: standard private double with separate private bathroom (16m2), deluxe private double with ensuite (26m2 or 29m2), super deluxe master suite with ensuite (35m2), and a dorm room with shared bathroom for up to 6 people (75m2)
  • Bed sizes available: single and king
  • All rooms have blackout curtains, a lock on the door, air conditioning, heating, and enough floor space for a yoga mat
  • Linen and towels included in the price
  • Internal walls are insulated and doors are high-quality solid wood, but the villa has tiled floors and sound does travel across the space
  • Communal spaces include a fully equipped kitchen, living room, dining room, covered veranda, garden, swimming pool, and BBQ area
  • A small home gym is available on site, along with yoga mats and props
  • The villa is spread across 4 floors and is hilly in setting, which may not suit guests with significant mobility issues
  • There is a resident cat and a small flock of chickens
  • Pets are welcome with conditions: all pets must be relaxed around cats and are not permitted on or in beds

Perfect for

Remote workers, creatives, and slow travellers who want to actually feel Italy rather than just visit it. People whose nervous systems need a rest, who have felt burnt out, creatively blocked, or just constantly in motion. Those curious about village life, regenerative living, or intentional community, and those who simply want a peaceful, rooted base to work and breathe from. Guests comfortable being independent but open to real human connection.

Not right for

People expecting nightlife, a busy urban nomad scene, or constant entertainment nearby. Guests who need city-level convenience, a big supermarket in walking distance, or a packed daily activities schedule. Those who want full-service hospitality or daily housekeeping. Anyone unwilling to clean up after themselves, share space considerately, or communicate directly. Guests with significant mobility issues, as the villa spans 4 floors on a hilly site. People with cat or animal allergies.
